75 Mile Drive: Hopland To Leggett (Mendocino County)

The drive for this package is all highway as you do not detour off Highway 101, the route you will be on after you cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Hopland is north of Cloverdale and is the gateway to the inland Mendocino County wine country.
There is wine everywhere on this itinerary. Saracina is not to be missed. (www.saracina.com – 707-744-1671) The modern winery is in a cave, reminiscent of France. Free tasting and a cave tour are included when you purchase their special $75 wine package.
Also take a short detour (Turn right at Hopland on Highway 175 for about 2 miles.) Campovida is known for its incredible organic gardens and boutique wines. (campovida.com – 707-400-6300 firstname.lastname@example.org) Free tasting is included when you purchase their unique $75 wine package.
Hopland also boasts the world famous Solar Living Institute and companion Real Goods Store. Tour the Solar Living Institute and do some shopping at the Real Goods store. Parducci Winery, the world’s first carbon neutral winery, (parducci.com – 707-462-9463) also has a tasting room in the Real Goods Store and offers a similar $75 selected wine package. The main Parducci winery and tasting room is on highway 101 just North of Ukiah and a tour is definitely a recommended educational experience.
Continuing north on Highway 101 after your wine tasting be sure to stop at Ridgewood Ranch the home of the famous racehorse Seabiscuit. (seabiscuitheritage.org – 707-459-5992) See some of the meticulously restored buildings from the original Howard Ranch. Call them first, as they are not open every day.
Driving further north on Highway 101, you’ll arrive at the Western themed town of Willits. (www.willits.org) Turn right on Commercial St. to visit the Mendocino County Museum where they will be displaying a special Golden Gate Bridge Anniversary display. Your lodging option is the Big Bend Lodge in Leggett. These rustic cabins are on the South Fork of the Eel River in the midst of the magnificent redwoods. (bigbendlodge.com – 707-925-2440). Many say the best restaurant in Ukiah, which is part of your journey, is Patrona (patronarestaurant.com – 707-462-9181). Enjoy dinner for two for $75 not including tax, alcohol and gratuity. They also have patio seating.
