Best Areas to Stay in San Francisco for Bay to Breakers

Coming up on May 21, 2017, the countdown to Bay to Breakers is on and if you are planning on running or walking the 7.45 miles that make up the route, the last thing on your mind is how to get to the race. Our advice—book a nearby hotel.

The Official Hotel for Bay to Breakers
Located near the beginning of the course, the Hyatt Regency San Francisco is the official hotel headquarters for the Zappos.com Bay to Breakers. The room block for the 2017 race opens in late October, but you can still check for availability through Booking.com.

Best Area to Stay Near the Starting Line: Financial District
With an 8 a.m. start time located near The Embarcadero, you may want to catch a few extra zzz’s. There are plenty of hotels just steps from the starting line, making it easy to catch a few extra winks before starting the race. Find a Hotel

Best Area to Stay if You Want to Go For an Extra Run: Embarcadero
If you’re coming in a day or two before the race, you may want to go for one last practice run. Hotels along the Embarcadero not only give you gorgeous views of the Bay Bridge, but also great running trails along the Embarcadero through Pier 39, the Ferry Building, AT&T Park and back again. Best Area to Stay if You Want a Morning Warm-Up: Union Square
If you want to warm-up before the race, a great option is to stay at a hotel in Union Square. Hotels in Union Square are located approximately 10 blocks from the start line, making it the perfect distance to warm up prior to the race. Find a Hotel

Best Area to Stay if You Want to People Watch: Alamo Square, Hayes Valley and Haight-Ashbury
If you are not planning to walk or run the course, there is still plenty of fun to be had. Alamo Square Park is a prime location to watch the thousands of race participants who wear creative costumes while navigating the streets. Find a Hotel

Best Area to Stay if You Want to Party After the Race: Sunset
The fun doesn't stop after you cross the finish line. Special race-day festivities are being planned in Golden Gate Park, including live entertainment and food and beverages. There are a few motels and inns in the area, making staying in the Sunset convenient after a long day of running, walking and celebrating. Find a Hotel
