The Best Places to Load up on Carbs in San Francisco (before Bay to Breakers)
If you are planning on running or walking the 7.45 miles that make up the Alaska Airlines Bay to Breakers route, you will need to do two things. Bistro Boudin (Fisherman's Wharf, 160 Jefferson St.)
What better way to load up on carbs than with San Francisco’s most famous bread, Boudin sourdough. The natural probiotics and low amounts of gluten make this bread a win-win. While everyone comes for the clam chowder in a bread bowl, try the Dungeness crab mac and cheese topped with buttered sourdough breadcrumbs.
Schroeder's Restaurant (240 Front St.)
Many come for the boots of beer, but the pretzel knots and Käse Spätzle make Schroeder's Restaurant a carb haven for German-food lovers.
Le Colonial (20 Cosmo Pl.)
Warm up before race day with a noodle bowl from Le Colonial. Order a Canh Chua Chay or Pho Bo for a satisfying meal that won’t break the bank.
Tony’s Pizza Napoletana (1570 Stockton St.)
You can put pretty much anything on a pizza, but at Tony’s the Margherita wins hands down - literally, since Tony won the World Pizza Cup Title in Naples. For a pre-race day meal, try any pie paired with a quinoa or spinach salad for an extra energy boost.
Delarosa (Various locations)
There's one clear advantage to visiting either of Delarosa's locations in the Marina or the Financial District: they're both in two of the flattest neighborhoods in San Francisco. You can gobble up some of their outstanding pizza without straining your calves on an incline.
