Nya Cruz is a cast member of Transcendent, a reality show that follows five trans women in San Francisco. She is also a performer at AsiaSF, an iconic San Francisco restaurant featuring world famous dancers. She's been performing there since she was 19. This is how she sees San Francisco.
Describe your perfect day in San Francisco.
My perfect day in SF is ever-changing. Whether I'm trying out new restaurants, walking along the Embarcadero, going out dancing, or just relaxing at Dolores Park with a bottle of wine, there is always something fun to do.
What should every visitor to San Francisco do at least once?
Go to AsiaSF! Everyone has to experience it at least once in their life. It is definitely a piece of San Francisco's heart and soul. Great food, entertainment and the gorgeous Ladies of AsiaSF. What more can you ask for?
What’s your favorite place to take a photo or read a book?
The Palace of Fine Arts. It is gorgeous! The trees and pond will soothe and calm you. You won't believe how beautiful it is. The architecture is stunning and perfect for an impromptu photo shoot.
Where do you indulge your artistic side in San Francisco?
I'm a lover of fashion and anything quirky. Haight Street is where I go when I want to find something unique. There's a plethora of amazing thrift shops, antique shops and lots of good restaurants. Definitely check out Cha Cha Cha's if you're hungry. Order the yummy Cajun shrimp, a pitcher of sangria and you're all set!
What’s your favorite event that happens in San Francisco?
Pride, of course! It's a celebration of love and diversity. San Francisco's streets are so alive during the parade. It is like nothing else I have ever experienced.
Where and what would you choose for your last meal in San Francisco?
Wow! This is an extremely tough question. I have so many favorites. I would have to say the BBQ pork shoulder at Sai Jai Thai in the Tenderloin. It is literally one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth.
Which restaurant is still on your list to dine at in San Francisco?
Elephant Sushi. It's funny that my friends from Los Angeles have told me it's amazing but I live here and still haven't been. Shameful! I definitely need to change that soon.
