JANUARY 2019

Awards and Accolades

  • This month, San Francisco Travel celebrated the completion of the Moscone Expansion Project. This four-year, half-billion dollar renovation and expansion of San Francisco's premiere convention venue, The Moscone Center, was completed on time and on budget. Now with more than 500,000 square feet of contiguous exhibiton space, breathtaking public art, and LEED Platinum Certification, The Moscone Center blazes a trail for flexible, sustainable, and community-friendly convention centers all over the world.
  • San Francisco was honored at the Best of GayCities 2018 Awards, winning three prizes including Most Welcoming City. GayCities is a leading publication focused on LGBTQ travel around the world.

New Staff and Promotions

  • Katie Harper has joined our team as Manager, Partner Services. In her role, Katie will make the most of our new office technology to better serve our expanding partnership community and educate partners about their capabilities to be seen by visitors.
  • Anjanette Jacalne has been promoted to a full-time member of our staff. In her continuing work as Senior Associate, Marketing Communications, Anjanette will develop new content for our website and publications, and execute our digital advertising strategy to best showcase San Francisco to the world.
  • Allison May has joined our Washington, D.C. office as Associate, Convention Sales. Allison has had prior experience with Destination D.C., the Washington Redskins, and the International Olympic Committee.
  • Scott Streeter has been promoted to Vice President, Global Parternships & Strategic Alliances. Scott has previously worked as our Senior Director, Partnership Sales, and will now move into the role of determining strategy and goals for the entire partnership team.
  • Brenda Tucker has joined San Francisco Travel as our Director, Arts Community Relations and Marketing. As the association's liaison to San Francisco's robust cultural community, Brenda will curate the diverse and numerous aspects of San Francisco's creative scene for promotion to our visitors.

NOVEMBER 2018

New Staff and Promotions

  • Brittney Burt has joined our Visitor Experience team as Associate & Lead Designate at our Visitor Information Center. She will coordinate all things from ticket sales to partner promotional material. Most recently, Brittney worked as a sales manager for Merlin Entertainment, owners of Madam Tussaud's and The San Francisco Dungeon.
  • Anastasia Straley has joined San Francisco Travel as our Manager, Social Media Marketing. She will be handling all of our social media accounts for our core audiences, as well as the advertising components included on those platforms. Anastasia most recently held a similar job with Choose Chicago.

OCTOBER 2018

Awards and Accolades

  • San Francisco Travel was awarded a Gold Magellen Award by TravelWeekly for exceptional destination marketing in our Always Welcome campaign. San Francisco Travel has previously been honored by TravelWeekly, most recently receiving a Silver Magellan Award for our Summer of Love campaign.

New Staff and Promotions

  • Immanuel Landerito has been promoted to Manager of our Visitor Information Center. He will handle inventory and retail, as well as managing the VIC staff and tracking their performance.
  • Carmina Ramos is returning to San Francisco Travel as Assistant Programs Manager for our Visitor Experience team. In this role, Carmina will be coordinating our MYSF events, exploring new content opportunities, and managing partner benefits at the VIC.

AUGUST 2018

New Staff and Promotions

  • Immanuel Landerito has joined our Visitor Information Center staff as a Senior Associate. His responsibilities will include our retail program, sales incentives, and more.

JULY 2018

New Staff and Promotions

  • Melissa Amato has been promoted to Senior Manager, Partner Events. Melissa has continued to evolve and improve our regularly scheduled partner events to great success, and has made sure our newest office technology supports a better attendee experience.
  • Tyler Cohn has been promoted to Senior Manager, Global Content and Publications. In this role, Tyler will oversee the organization's publication program, as well as the development of various collateral pieces, in-house ads, bids and presentations.
  • Vincent D'Amico has joined our Visitor Information Center staff as a full-time Lead/Senior Associate. His prior experience includes working on the Guest Experience team at the California Academy of Sciences.
  • Anton Eckert has been promoted to Senior Director, Global Tourism Development. She will continue to manage our teams and efforts in the China, Japan, and Korea markets. She will take on a greater role in the strategic development of programs for these high-value territories.
  • Anjanette Jacalne has joined the marketing team as Senior Associate, Marketing Communications. In this part-time role, she will assist in the development and publication of online content, as well as other digital marketing efforts.
  • Karen Lau has been promoted to Senior Manager, Global Digital Marketing. In this role, Karen will continue to oversee our direct response and ecommerce efforts, which have been an integral part of her department's success in growing revenue.
  • Tanjeet Santini has been promoted to Senior Manager, Convention Sales for our citywide clients. Having previously worked with self-contained clients in the East Bay, Tanjeet will now be focused on citywide clients coming into the newly renovated Moscone Center at 1,700 peak rooms or less.
  • Daniel Schwartz has been promoted to Director, Global Tourism Development. His territory covers North, Central, and South America, and he has developed strong relationships throughout those regions. He will be developing a new strategy to engage more effectively with receptive operators in these places.
  • Robert Skelton has been promoted to Senior Manager, Partner Services. Robert has diligtently grown the ranks of our Strategic Alliance partners, and will be training that expertise on the other levels of partnership this year.
  • Nicole Tavrovsky has been promoted to Senior Associate, Convention Sales and Events. Nicole's expanded responsibilities will include managing promotional materials, logistics, and on-site event support for missions and special events.

Congratulations

  • After more than 40 years at the San Francisco Travel Association, Cindy Hu, Senior Director, Creative Services, has retired. Cindy was influential in shaping the voice, tone and brand identity of San Francisco Travel during some of the city's greatest changes. We will miss her eye for detail, her encyclopedic institutional memory, and her persistent smile.

MARCH 2018

New Staff and Promotions

  • Tatiana Ranis has joined San Francisco Travel as Manager, Global PR and Media Relations. She had previoiusly worked with the media team as an intern. Tatiana is a native San Franciscan, a graduate of Gonzaga University, and fluent in French.

FEBRUARY 2018

Awards and Accolades

  • Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) honored San Francisco Travel with two Gold Adrian Awards for our Summer of Love and Always Welcome marketing campaigns.
  • Visit California honored San Francisco Travel with a Poppy Award for our Summer of Love Best Overall Marketing program in its category. The Poppy Awards are held every two years to honor the individuals and organizations that embody the California spirit and elevate the Golden State brand. The event serves as the grand finale to Outlook Forum, the California travel and tourism industry’s flagship annual conference. 

New Staff and Promotions

  • Ayrn Hoppe has been promoted to Manager, Convention Sales Projects. Her new focus will be on matters such as budgeting and CRM maintenance and training.
  • Jessica Lum has joined the team as our new Director of Public Policy and Executive Programs, reporting to Cassandra Costello. Jessica has most recently worked for the Hotel Council of San Francisco, where her work was focused on transportation policy and hospitality industry outreach on matters such as homelessness.
  • Mimi Toy has joined San Francisco Travel as an Executive Associate in the Convention Sales & Services department, reporting to Tom David. Mimi worked for Marriott for almost 17 years in various roles, including Front Office Operations and Event Management. Her responsibilities will largely be those once fulfilled by Ayrn Hoppe.
