Chinatown Merchants Association

Founded in 1988 the San Francisco Chinatown Merchants Association (SFCMA) is an independent community organization dedicated to the revitalization of commerce and tourism in one of America's most unique historic neighborhoods and one of San Francisco's top visitor attractions: Chinatown. Home to one of the largest Chinese populations outside of Asia, it offers vibrant culture through the people, the architecture, the ambiance and customs, the shops, the food and the languages. Stretching for 30 blocks from the Dragon Gate at Bush and Grant, the neighborhood is ideal for walking and includes a number of temples and museums which are open to the general public. In recent years this historic area has acquired a modern edge as young owners open stores combining contemporary style with traditional Asian designs. Unique gifts at affordable prices are everywhere. Bring your appetite, too. Along Grant Avenue and the surrounding streets, visitors can stop in at a local bakery for a snack or enjoy Shanghai noodles and dim sum at one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood. If you find yourself here in the fall, don't miss the annual Autumn Moon Festival which was inaugurated in 1991 by the SFCMA as part of its mission to ensure that visitors and locals alike appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Chinatown. Drawing visitors from all over the U.S., the festival offers two days of nonstop entertainment, food, shopping, dragon parades, cultural events, children and more.
